Abstract

The Module Type Package (MTP) promises rapid and flexible integration and orchestration of production modules into a plant network by providing standardised information about the modules. The MTP was developed for process automation, but promises potential for other domains as well. In this contribution, the authors investigate whether and how the MTP and its concepts can be transferred to manufacturing automation. In this first part, the authors derive the necessary adaptions. Characteristics of manufacturing automation are presented, requirements for the MTP concepts are identified, and the need for action is determined. In a subsequent second part of the article an implementation will be presented.
